Hope Recovery Center, as an all-volunteer, grass-roots organization, has achieved a
number of milestones, since achieving its 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue
Service the fall of September 2015. Supporters were recruited and elected to serve on
the nonprofit’s board of directors to advance the mission of the organization.
In 2016, Hope Recovery boldly moved forward to achieve significant milestones,
including mobilization of supporters in the community and beyond. A Memorandum of
Understanding was signed with Lakebay Community Church in November 2016 to
establish the future of Hope Recovery Center on the Key Peninsula with an agreement
to locate the facilities on 7-plus acres owned by the church
Hope Recovery Center’s Board and other supporters hosted numerous community
forums in 2017, including neighborhood meetings, gatherings with elected officials and
meetings with businesses to collect input and share the vision of the proposed
community asset. Other milestones include:
Launch of a professional website and expanded social media presence
Preparation for obtaining necessary project permits including engaging an
architect to produce conceptual drawings and maintaining communication with
Pierce County planning officials
Affirmation of the nonprofit’s Mission Vision and Values
Pre-capital campaign planning, assisted by experienced nonprofit development
consultants
Implementation of Constituent Relations Management software to track and
communicate with donors
Print media attention with several newspaper articles featuring Jeremiah
Saucier and his vision for Hope Recovery Center
In October of 2018 a major milestone was achieved when the Conditional Use Permit
application was submitted to and accepted by Pierce County Planning and Public
Works. The granting of this permit will be followed by the completion of site
development plans and permitting, and the planned start of the capital campaign.
Other key milestones include:
Special events for fund raising for pre-construction costs and to increase
community awareness included the 3 rd annual Guns ‘N Hoses Softball
Tournament and the Swing for Hope Golf Tournament
Receipt of a $4 thousand grant from Key Peninsula Healthy Community,
designated for office rent to maintain a local presence
Selection of the Alford Group as consultants to provide professional oversight
of the capital campaign, funded by a $40 thousand grant from the Puyallup
Tribe of Indians
Enhancement of the web page and Facebook presence, including making Hope
Recovery Center a part of the national Giving Tuesday program
2019 was a year of preparation as Hope Recovery Center remains committed to the vision of
building a substance abuse recovery center on the Key Peninsula. We continue to work with
the Planning Department of Pierce County to obtain approval of the Conditional Use Permit.
During this time, these important project development steps have been taken:
The Alford Group capital campaign consultants completed a detailed Feasibility Study,
interviewing 50 community members and evaluating the Hope Recovery organization
infrastructure. Working with a Study Overview Committee, the resulting
recommendation was that Hope Recovery can successfully move forward with
planning for a multi-million dollar capital campaign.
A modification of structure is allowing an expansion of the Board of Directors to
ensure that the necessary skills and networking capabilities are in place to support the
campaign.
The successful “Swing 4 Hope” golf tournament raised $9 thousand for project startup
costs.
Hope Recovery Center was a part of the national Giving Tuesday program for a
second year.
The web site hope-recovery.org was expanded to include a list of Frequently Asked
Questions.
HRC continues to assess and build capacity for communications and fund
development in addition to gearing up for future property development and
construction. Communication with our neighbors on the Key Peninsula is a top
priority.
